Page almost perfect for Philomath

PHILOMATH n Deanna Page was one pitch away from a perfect game in Philomath High’s 10-0 nonleague softball win in five innings over Cottage Grove on Monday.

Page struck out eight, with one hit and no walks.

“She was pretty dominant,” PHS (7-9, 3-6) coach Dave Dunham said.

Page finished with two hits, one a double, for PHS. Cassy Shenk went 3-for-4 with a triple and Kourtney Hannaway went 3-for-3.

Philomath plays at Taft on Thursday.

Boys tennis

SALEM — The Philomath High boys tennis team competed in the Special District 2 district meet at Willamette University on Monday.

Marian Kamlott remained alive in the singles and will play again Thursday at Central High.

The girls Special District 2 playoffs begin today, also at Willamette. Mindi Larrabee is the third seed in the singles.

Baseball

ALSEA n The Wolverines scored five times in the bottom of the sixth to pull away for an 11-6 Special District 3 win over Monroe.

Ben Pearson tripled and Mike Neil doubled to knock in runs for Alsea (14-2, 12-2) in the inning.

Andy Marin pitched a complete game for the Wolverines, who were playing their fourth game in five days. They play host to Mohawk today.

“That really saved us because everyone else has been used a lot,” Alsea coach Dave Meeker said.

Dustin Webb had two doubles for Alsea. Adam Opoien and Drew Hubbard both homered for Monroe.
