Sami Keim scored on a wild pitch to lift Corvallis High to a 5-4 victory over conference-leader Silverton on Tuesday in a Mid-Willamette Conference softball game.
The Spartans (12-11, 12-7) are locked in a battle for the fourth and final state playoff berth from the MWC. They must finish ahead of Lebanon to get in.
In the seventh, Keim reached base on a one-out single, moved to second on a passed ball and then scampered to third on Hayley Appelman’s single. Appelman stole second, but Silverton threatened to send the game to extra-innings with a strike out and had Catherine Lee down 0-2.
“She fouled off several pitches. I trust Catherine, but I was hoping for a wild pitch so we could get the game over with,” CHS coach Bridgette Overstreet said.
Corvallis plays at Silverton today before hosting the Silver Foxes on Friday.
Lebanon is playing playoff-bound Crescent Valley this week and dropped its Tuesday game with the Raiders.
