I am running for City Council because:
On the nonpartisan City Council, good judgment and common sense are more useful than rigid adherence to a political agenda. If elected, I will listen more than I speak. I will learn from the views of others before making decisions that reflect our shared values.
I am a businessman and widowed father of three. My daughters are honor students and my son is a Marine Corps officer. I own and operate Schroff Insurance Agency, which has been a Corvallis family business for over 20 years. My retired parents live here. Corvallis has been good to my family.
I became interested in local government by serving on the Government Affairs Committee at the Chamber Coalition. My business sense and volunteer leadership experience enable me to provide a balanced approach to service on the Council. I will be the only active employer on the council.
I work with and support community organizations, including Rotary, Boys and Girls Club, Willamette Neighborhood Housing Services, First United Methodist Church, and Linn-Benton Food Share. I helped plan and lead the 2007 “Business is Good Tour” which promoted Corvallis to state leaders and showcased our high-tech workplaces.
My goal as a member of the City Council is to promote a thriving business environment while honoring the exceptional livability of our community. Through responsible stewardship and sustainable business practices we can achieve Prosperity that Fits. Maintaining a vibrant, diverse economic base will support the things we value here: responsive city services, outstanding schools, beautiful parks, and open space.
