I was also a recreation director for the city of Portland for five years.

I am running for City Council because:

This is a critical time for Corvallis. The planning we do and the policies we develop today are what will make our vision for the future come true.

Corvallis needs a strong, vibrant economy that supports local businesses. Our development strategies such as the Prosperity That Fits plan and the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition must protect and enhance our economy, a safe and healthy life, our excellent education system and our environment for present and future generations.

Our prosperity must benefit all members of our community, including those experiencing difficulties finding employment, accessing services, getting enough food, or finding a place to live. We can, if we work together, end homelessness in Corvallis within the next 10 years.

The strength of our community is in our diversity. Corvallis depends on the many residents who volunteer their time, passion, and expertise. I value and respect all people who seek to participate in our local democracy.

An effective councilor needs to listen, negotiate, handle conflict creatively, engage in public dialogue, and imagine creative solutions that respect our community values.

I have lived in Ward 7 and been active in community affairs for 19 years. I understand what residents in Ward 7 value. Thirty years’ experience as a teacher, work with Uzhgorod-Corvallis Sister City Program, OSU Crossroads International, Benton County Bill of Rights Defense Committee, and others has given me the skills to produce creative solutions.

Please vote for Jeanne Raymond to be your voice on the city council.
