Man dies in Monroe crash

A man was discovered dead on a rural road just west of Monroe early Monday when deputies responded to a call from a passerby about a single-vehicle motorcycle accident.

Deputies arrived at the scene of the accident on Bellfountain Road, approximately one-third of a mile south of Alpine Road, just after 7 a.m. and confirmed that the 52-year-old man, Mickey Ray Fletcher of Monroe, was deceased, according to Benton County sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Greg Ridler.

Sheriff’s investigators are looking into the incident and do not yet know when the crash occurred, Ridler said.

“It happened sometime during the early morning,” Ridler said. “It could have happened as early as (1 a.m.).”

There were no indications that alcohol, drugs or another vehicle were involved.

Ridler said that evidence, including skid marks, suggests that Fletcher lost control of his black Harley-Davidson motorcycle around a slight turn while heading north on Bellfountain Road.

The motorcycle skidded across the oncoming lane and came to rest on the west side of the road. Fletcher was separated from his motorcycle and struck a rock, Ridler said.

Investigators closed Bellfountain Road for about three hours Monday morning to gather evidence.

The person who called the police did not witness the crash. The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information to call Lt. Gregg Ridler at 541-766-6870.
