Crime Watch
This log includes incidents in which there may have been a public disturbance or a risk to the public. Information comes from the Corvallis Police Department and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. It does not include all calls for service. The status of incidents may change after further investigation. Locations are approximate. People arrested or suspected in crimes are considered innocent until proven otherwise.
Saturday, May 3
Warrant arrest: 12:16 a.m., Northwest Highway 20 and North Albany Road, North Albany. A deputy stopped a vehicle for having defective lights and discovered that one of the passengers had a warrant for his arrest for stalking out of Linn County. The man was arrested and taken to the Linn County jail.
Curfew violation: 12:19 a.m., Southeast Third Street and Alexander Avenue, Corvallis. Police stopped a pickup for driving without headlights and found that the 15-year-old driver was driving without a license and had two passengers, who were 13 and 14 years old. The officer called the driver’s father, who said the boy had sneaked out of the house and taken the pickup without permission. The officer cited all three boys for being out after curfew, and he drove the younger two boys home. The driver’s father came to retrieve his son and his pickup.
DUII: 1:21 a.m., 2200 block Northwest Ninth Street, Corvallis. A witness reported seeing a drunken driver outside a fast food restaurant. An officer responded and arrested the driver for DUII. It was later determined that the driver’s blood alcohol content was 0.10 percent.
Concealed handgun: 3:18 a.m., Southeast Third Street and Lilly Avenue, Corvallis. A man reportedly ran from an officer after being confronted about urinating on a sidewalk. The man ran down into a wide drainage ditch and was caught on the far side. The officer found a .32-caliber handgun on the man, who reportedly said he ran because he didn’t want to get in trouble for carrying a concealed handgun. The man was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and disorderly conduct.
Sunday, May 4
Open container: 1:38 a.m., 1400 block Northwest Monroe Avenue, Corvallis. An officer spotted three men walking down the sidewalk with open cans of beer. All three were cited for having open containers of alcohol in public.
Warrant arrest: 12:20 a.m., Southwest Ninth Street and Washington Avenue, Corvallis. Officers stopped a man on a bicycle for riding without a headlight. The man had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Douglas County for failing to appear in court on three charges of being a minor in possession of alcohol. The officer confirmed the warrant and transported the man to the Benton County jail.
Open container: 5:27 p.m., Southwest Sixth Street and Monroe Avenue, Corvallis. Police cited a man for having an open container of alcohol and smoking a cigarette in Central Park.
