The driver who died in a crash Wednesday on Highway 34 east of Waldport has been identified as David A. Kuykendoll, 39, of Benicia, Calif.

According to a preliminary investigation by the Oregon State Police, Kuykendoll was driving eastbound when his pickup left the south side of the highway, traveled over the top of a guardrail and struck several trees.

The pickup came to rest on its top about 30 feet down the embankment.
