Corvallis Pride off to 3-0 start

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Simone Shepherd rushed for three touchdowns and caught another to help the Corvallis Pride women’s football team to a 33-13 thrashing of three-time reigning champion Sacramento on Saturday.

The Pride (3-0) took a 13-0 lead in the first quarter on runs of 10 and 6 yards by Shepherd. Corvallis led 19-0 after Jayme Frazier’s 25-yard TD pass to Shepherd in the second quarter.

Michelle Derry added a 3-yard run in the third quarter, and Shepherd closed the scoring for Corvallis with a 7-yard run in the fourth.

Corvallis rushed 44 times for 227 yards while limiting Sacramento to 136 yards on the ground on 34 carries.

Corvallis has a bye this week before hosting Seattle, which is also 3-0, on May 10 at 1 p.m. at Corvallis High School.
