Roundup

Gazette-Times

DALLAS - Thomas McCarthy pitched a complete-game six-hitter and Crescent Valley High had 11 hits as the Raiders earned a 10-2 Mid-Willamette Conference baseball victory over Dallas on Tuesday.

“We got a great effort from McCarthy with a full game, errorless defense for the second game in a row and 11 hits,” CV coach David Mintken said. “Anytime you do that you have a pretty good chance of winning the game.”

The Raiders (6-6), 3-1 in MWC play since opening 0-3, scored seven runs in the fourth inning as they handed Dallas its first MWC loss.

Josh Liebeskind doubled, singled and drove in four runs, while Jake Likewise and Kiel Larkin both had two RBIs.

“We had a lot of confidence going in,” Mintken said. “The way we’re playing right now, we believe we can beat anybody in the our league and we showed that today, not just getting a close win, but by getting a big win.”

McCarthy had six strikeouts, one walk and two hit batters in his performance.

The Raiders will host Dallas today and Friday.

ALBANY - Aaron Corwin hit a three-run homer and CHS held off West Albany to remain undefeated in Mid-Willamette Conference play.

CHS (11-2, 7-0) took advantage of an error by the Bulldogs in the third inning to increase its lead to 2-0. Corwin followed that with his home run to put the Spartans up 5-0.

That helped CHS overcome a subpar outing from ace Danny Alig, who walked two and hit two while improving to 4-1 on the season.

“The important thing is that Danny allowed just one hit over the last three innings,” CHS coach Eric Dazey said. “We did a pretty good job of holding them off late.”

Nate Williams added a solo homer in the first for the Spartans, who got five hits from five different players.

The two teams meet again today for the second game of the series.
