High school BOYS HOOPS

SHERWOOD n The West Albany High boys basketball team took its first win of the season, 68-61 over The Dalles/Wahtonka for the consolation title at the Sherwood Yuletide Tournament on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (1-6) thawed out in the second half and scored 50 points on 18 of 33 shooting. They were seven of 31 in the first half.

“The talk at the half was that we just need to start knocking some of these shots down,” WAHS coach Todd Vinnermann said.

The Bulldogs clamped down on the defensive end and forced 12 turnovers, making it easier going on offense.

“We played at a pace they didn’t want to play at,” Vinnermann said.

Jesse Strickland had 14 points and Elliott O’Bryan added seven points, 10 rebounds and five steals.

The Bulldogs host North Salem on Tuesday.
