Park loss brings grief

Write an editorial

On Tuesdays we regularly feature the writing of area students who “Write an Editorial” as part of the Gazette-Times’ Newspapers in Education program.

This week, students in the second-grade class of Russ Harris at Wilson Elementary School shared their thoughts about Wildcat Park, which recently was closed due to safety concerns.

I remember Wildcat Park in first grade. It got shut down on Jan. 6. Wildcat was my only park I had to play at except South Park. I miss miss miss Wildcat! Do you miss Wildcat? I bet you do. I had my special pictures there. I had my cat’s picture there too. I know Wildcat good, but I wish it wasn’t shut down. Wildcat was where me and my friends played every day. I want Wildcat Park back please. Wildcat was the best park.

Sheyenne Stouder

I remember playing in Wildcat Park. I played dinosaurs. I played hide-and-go-seek and went in the field. I loved chasing my brother Ian in the maze. I liked digging in the rocks. I am very sad that it is closed.

Aaron Coe

My memories of Wildcat Park — I always liked to play with my sister there.

I liked to play on the tire swing. They closed the park on Jan. 6. My mom, me, and my sister once had a picnic there. And now I miss that park. I never got to play there for the last time.

Sheriden Fidler

When I first saw Wildcat Park it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I was shy when I saw all the people. I loved how it was until they closed it. It was all I wanted. It was the best park ever. I loved Wilson Wildcat Park. Why do they have to tear it down?

Lillyen Carroll

This is what I remember about Wildcat Park. My first day on Wildcat Park was my first day of school. I never knew how big it was until Jan. 6. I made lots of friends at Wildcat Park. Wildcat Park was a friend maker. Wildcat Park was my friend. I’ll never forget Wildcat Park.

Ivory Carroll

This is what I remember about Wildcat Park. When I first saw the park, I was excited. It was so fun. I enjoyed playing there even if I was alone.

I will always think of Wildcat Park. Wildcat Park was one of the best parks I’ve ever played in. Until they closed it. But the good part is they’re going to build a new one.

Kevin Geniza

I miss Wildcat Park so much because when one of my best pals decides not to play with me, I always know I’ll find another best pal at Wildcat Park to be by my side. Always. Yes, always.

Feliciah Orphan

These are my memories about Wildcat Park and my feelings when it closed. I had my birthday party there when I turned 7. And, I used to play there with my cousin Ryan when he visited from St. Louis. And, I went to my friends’ birthday parties there. I was sad when it closed. It closed Jan. 6. When I had nothing to do, I could always meet a friend at Wildcat Park.
