Portland hosts conference

PORTLAND — The National Summit to Save Our Elections, a voting rights conference drawing participants from all across the country to Portland this weekend, will feature Benton County attorney Blair Bobier and the Green Party's 2004 presidential candidate, David Cobb.

The summit begins Friday and runs through Sunday. It is sponsored by the Oregon Voters Rights Coalition and the Alliance for Democracy. It includes workshops, panels, a keynote address and time for activists to network.

In addition to Bobier, who was the Green Party presidential campaign's media director, and Cobb, other speakers scheduled include U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer, Jo Ann Bowman and columnist Bob Koehler.

Bobier — a Philomath resident, a founder of the Pacific Green Party and the party's 1998 gubernatorial candidate — will discuss working with the media at a 2:15 p.m. panel discussion and will introduce Cobb, the conference's keynote speaker, on Saturday.

Cobb and Bobier have pursued the Ohio presidential recount which is the subject of a pending federal lawsuit set for trial in August 2006.

For more information on the conference, see www.summit.oregonvrc.org.
